Computers & equipment4

My computer has no inventory number — how do I get one?

Call the warehouse on extension 8295 (from outside: 03-531-8295) and give the computer details — manufacturer, model and serial number.

The warehouse produces a label with an inventory number; you collect it from them and stick it on the computer.

Why it matters — An inventory number is needed for almost every request — repairs, warranty and equipment disposal. It is also a hard requirement for joining the wired network: the whole process is here.
I cannot see drive R or my lab printer

First make sure the computer is connected with a network cable and not Wi-Fi — the server is not reachable over eduroam. Everything about drive R.

If it is wired and still does not work, it is a permissions issue and I handle it. Send me an email with:

  • The inventory number of the computer.
  • The username you use to sign in to it.

That is all I need — I will update the permissions and get back to you.

My printer keeps jamming
I have an old computer or monitor I want to throw away

Inventoried equipment must be written off with a form — you cannot simply discard it. Full guide here.

Network & internet2

A site is blocked on the university network but opens on my phone

The block is at the university network level, which is why it opens over mobile data. You can ask to have it lifted.

Open a TMR request, give the full URL, and explain what you need it for — a request without a justification will be declined.

There is a network socket in the wall but no internet through it

In most cases the point exists physically but was never activated. How to activate it.

Email & software2

I want an extra email address that lands in the same mailbox

That is called an alias: a second address leading to your existing mailbox. Mail sent to it arrives normally, but anything you send always goes out from your original address.

Full explanation and how to request it.

I need software the university has no licence for — Photoshop, for example
  1. Ask a software supplier for a quote. You can contact shirly@aztek.com.
  2. For other suppliers, Karin Katzir in the procurement department can help — extension 7379.
  3. With the quote in hand, issue a requisition in Anant.
Before you buy — Worth checking — some software is already covered by a university licence, and some has a free alternative that does the job. Ask me before spending money.

Websites1

I want a new website for my lab or for a conference I am organising

Contact Adi Leshe-Bar in the marketing department: adi.leshe-bar@biu.ac.il · 03-5318129.

You cannot build it yourself — Bar-Ilan websites must meet the marketing department standards, and they are set up through that department only.
