Buying a computer from the KAKMAB budget — for students

From checking how much money you have to the computer on your desk. Your part is mostly steps 1–4 — I handle the rest.

Students only — This guide is for students buying a computer from the KAKMAB budget, and the order goes through me. Faculty members do not go through me: they order themselves in Anant — see how to issue a requisition.
    1. Check your remaining budget

You can find out your KAKMAB balance from me or from the department office. Easiest — email me your ID number and I will reply with your balance.

    2. Choose a computer

      There are two ways:

      • From the tender — pick a model from the computer price list.
      • By quote — ask one of the suppliers listed on the first page of the price list for a quote.

Not sure what to buy? You are welcome to come and consult with me.

The budget is flexible — You can use all of your balance or only part of it — whatever you prefer. If the computer costs more than your budget, you can pay the difference with your own credit card, or from your supervisor's research budget (if they approve).
    3. Fill in the form and get it signed

Print and fill in the KAKMAB form, and have it signed by three people:

      • The head of the department
      • The rector
      • The head of academic staff payments — Hava Ernst, 03-7384545
      • Chose from the tender? Say so on the form.
      • Chose by quote? Attach the quote to the form.
    4. Email me everything

      1. The signed form.
      2. The quote — or the model you picked from the tender.
      3. Which operating system and which Office you want on the computer. For example: Office 64 bit English.
About Office — The operating system comes with the computer. Office is an extra 227 ₪ — only if you want it.

It does not matter who sends the email — you, the department office or anyone else.

Also using your supervisor's budget? — Ask your supervisor to email me that they approve it.
    5. Get a requisition number

If everything is in order, I will email you back with the requisition number in Anant.

    6. The requisition goes through approvals

The requisition goes through a round of approvals until it reaches the supplier. Want to know where it stands? Email me every few days and ask.

Got an order number from me? — That means the requisition passed all approvals and reached the supplier.
    7. Delivery questions go to the supplier

Once there is an order number, every question about the delivery goes to the supplier, with the order number. I have no way to help with that. For example:

      • When will the computer arrive?
      • I ordered a black computer and got a white one — what now?
      • I ordered an i5 processor and got an i3 — what now?
      • The computer arrived with a broken screen — what now?
Supplier giving you trouble? — You can call Karin Katzir in the procurement department, extension 7379, for help.
    8. The computer arrives at my office

The computer is delivered to my office. The moment it arrives you will get a message or an email from me — no need to ask every day.

    9. Installation and help

Need help installing something or getting started with the computer? I am here to help.

    10. Three-year warranty

The computer has a 3-year warranty. For any hardware problem, open a TMR request to the supplier.

TMR is reachable only from campus — TMR works only from the wired campus network — a computer connected with a network cable. Wi-Fi is not enough. From home you first need the university VPN.
